Missouri State shortstop Eric Cheray doubled with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning and scored the winning run after a walk and a hit batsman loaded the bases. Medrano, who went 4-for-6 and scored two runs and one RBI, notched the game-winning RBI with a line drive up the middle.

My New Byline
More than five years ago, a shy Keven Chambers asked if I wanted to go out with him via AOL instant messenger. To me, it meant to hang out as friends, but to him, it meant more. I was uninterested in high school dating and his wiry beard, but I was too afraid to break his heart. Months went by as I fake dated him, but to my surprise, I slowly began to fall in love.
After a grueling 13 hour drive from school Friday for the start of my spring break, I finally made it to Keven’s parents’ New Castle, Pa. home just after 2:00 a.m. Our long-distance relationship through college allows us to see each other only a handful of times every year only if our breaks line up, if I am not busy with field hockey or if we have the money to afford Greyhound tickets or airfare. However, our limited face-to-face time means a more predictable engagement.
After plenty of insisting yesterday, Keven drove me to Moraine State Park. We laid on a quilt by the lake in the sunny 70 degree weather, he said a few nice words as I was dozing off and just then, he whipped out a ring. It was simple, quick and not over-the-top romantic: typical Keven and Steph.
I usually don’t write personal entries that have nothing to do with photojournalism since I strictly want this to be a photo blog and a portfolio website, but I can’t contain myself since this is the happiest moment of my 20-year-old life.
We have been dreaming about our future for years–what jobs we want to land, places we want to road trip to and how many dogs we will own in our first place. It is crazy to think of how this all began, from two immature high school sophomores with raging hormones to best friends who are deeply in love and can act idiotic around each other.
The only tie-in to journalism my engagement has is that next summer I will have a new byline: Steph Chambers. Love really is patient.

Bears Tested In Front of NFL Scouts
Eight current and former Missouri State players tested their physicality in front of 13 NFL scouts Friday morning at Plaster Field in hopes of chasing their professional dream.
Scouts from the Bills, Colts, Jaguars, Chiefs, Giants, Eagles, Bears, Packers, Panthers, Buccaneers, 49ers, Steelers and Seahawks tested the pro hopefuls in the 40-yard dash, broad jump, shuttle run, three-cone drills and position-specific tests after evaluations in the weight room.
Bears Jermaine Saffold and Chris Douglas were the day’s headliners. Saffold sprinted the best 40-yard time of the day at 4.36 and also stuck a broad jump of 10-feet, 3 inches while Douglas, who has been training in Atlanta at the WPI Athletics training facility, registered a 4.47 in the 40-yard dash.

Lady Bears Stay Alive with Win Over UMKC
The Missouri State Lady Bears bounced back to win 81-79 over the University of Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos to advance in the WNIT tonight at JQH Arena.
With four Lady Bears scoring in double-digits, playing without senior Casey Garrison, who sat out due to illness, was a non factor. Garrison held a streak of 128 consecutive starts, the third-longest nationally.
Karly Buer led with 22 points while Whitney Edie accumulated 18. Senior Lacey Boshe played in her 129th career game, tying Jackie Stiles for the MSU record.

Baseball Bears Swatted by No. 28 Purdue
Missouri State contained Purdue, who is ranked top hitting team in the country with a .376 batting average, to only four runs, but could not keep up after an early deficit as MSU lost 4-2 at Hammons Field tonight.
Bears pitcher Clay Murphy struck out eight Boilermakers within seven innings despite Purdue’s three runs in the first three innings to give the visitors the upper hand until the end.
Overall, it was a slow moving game with barely any exciting plays. But shooting baseball was the perfect excuse to be outside in 80 degree weather on a school night.

Another Bronze
It took over a month for the judges of the National Press Photographers Association to make their choices for the Student Clip Contest for November-January, but I was pleased with the results. I placed third for the second consecutive quarter in sports photography.
Here is my entry on their website:
I covered the Women’s Soccer MVC Tournament this fall, but our team came up short in the championship game. I knew the girls, especially the seniors, would cry since they were blown out 5-0 by Illinois State. When the clock ticked down, I felt incredibly awkward shoving my camera in their depressed faces, but I forced myself to overcome any of my own emotion by focusing on recording the scene.
Entering images to the NPPA Student Clip Contest constantly reminds me of the competition at other universities. There is such great talent produced everyday, and viewing others’ work pushes me to expand my limits.
